Explore the dramatic volcanic landscapes and natural wonders of São Miguel on this full-day jeep tour, combining two of the island’s most iconic highlights: Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo.

We start the day in Ponta Delgada, heading west to visit Miradouro da Vista do Rei, where you’ll take in the famous panoramic view of the twin lakes inside the Sete Cidades volcanic crater. From there, we descend to the shores of Lagoa das Sete Cidades and explore the peaceful village of Sete Cidades, home to the picturesque Igreja de São Nicolau.

Continuing the journey, we pass by the historic Muro das Nove Janelas aqueduct and head toward the rugged coastline near Capelas, offering ocean views and volcanic rock formations. We’ll also stop at Mulher do Capote, a local distillery where you can sample traditional Azorean liqueurs.

After a relaxing lunch break, we make our way to Ribeira Grande, the island’s northern town known for its historic charm and geothermal activity. From there, we visit the scenic Salto do Cabrito waterfall, tucked away in the island’s lush interior — a hidden gem perfect for nature lovers.

We end the day with a drive up to Lagoa do Fogo (Lake of Fire), one of the island’s most beautiful and untouched crater lakes. Surrounded by steep slopes and native forest, it’s a peaceful spot with stunning views over both the lake and the island. From Miradouro do Pico da Barrosa, you’ll get one of the best viewpoints on São Miguel before we return to Ponta Delgada.

The tour starts with a short briefing introducing to the volcanic islet’s geology, plant and animal species that can be found, the nature reserve’s rules, and safety. Everyone will follow the Guide and Skipper to their designated boat, for 10 minutes travelling by sea to the Islet.

You will disembark at the islet’s harbor, for a hour-and-half tour to explore the volcanic marvel and its notorious features. The islet crater is rocky with endemic Azorean Heather, Firetree and other flora species making this a beautiful living habitat for wildlife, and often birds can be observed, such as Buzzards, Turnstones, Sanderlings, Little Egrets, Whimbrels, Canaries, Wagtails, and even Sally lightfoot crab colonies!

It is life rich all year, especially in Autumn and Winter. Your guide will keep you informed on what you are observing and is available throughout your tour to provide answers to any specific questions – feel free to ask!

At 16:15 it is time to be back to the Marina for check-out.
