Description

Throughout this experience, you’ll discover Terceira Island and the main volcanic phenomena that shaped it, which today are home to breathtaking landscapes — such as the Algar do Carvão, the only volcano in the world that can be visited on foot.

Where ancient eruptions once passed, one of the oldest and last remaining native forests of Europe still thrives: the Laurissilva forest of Macaronesia — a mysterious, humid forest rich in endemic species.

This journey is a quest for the island’s greatest natural treasure, as you explore one of the largest natural parks in the Azores, which is part of the “Azores Geopark.” The tour takes place in a van, with short walking trails along the way.

Private Half-Day Hike Around the Caldeira

€75.00 Per Person Andreas from Visitfaial
Hiking around the Caldeira is an experience you should not miss out if you visit Faial. This collapsed volcanic cone is one of the main landmarks of Faial. With 2 km in diameter it is an impressive reminder of the force of nature. The trail around the perimeter is about 7 km long and can be done in two to three hours. The hike around the Caldeira is physically easy, but those suffering from vertigo might find a couple of well secured passages a bit of a challenge. This hike is only worthwhile to be done if the weather is clear and the wind is not too strong. You will be rewarded with stunning views of the neighbouring islands and the untouched nature.
