Enjoy a boat exploration to see and admire the volcanic marvel and its notorious geological features and the seasonal highlights of marine life, with an enchanting narrative while circling the Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo.

A beautiful exposed relic of an oceanic volcanic cone and unique wildlife-thriving maritime sanctuary sculpted by the forces of sea and seismic activity, for Birds and Fish to even Lightfoot Crabs, it is especially life-rich from Fall to Spring! It is also a prominent influential factor in Vila Franca do Campo and the island’s history, a representation of the resilient embrace of life on the edge of the Atlantic.

Your guide will keep you informed on what you are observing and is available for any specific questions – feel free to ask! After the boat tour it is time to head back to the Marina for check-out.

We recommend you to be at the specified time registration and briefing. Eat light, bring your personal water supply, sunscreen and chapstick for the Sun, and warm clothing since temperatures may vary. Light food is permitted onboard, and a Camera is essential, specially for photography lovers – please protect any electronics and personal equipment.

We do not recommend this tour to anyone pregnant, with weak back, in delicate health condition, nor to children under the age of 4.

Bathing is not permitted on this tour.

See upclose a volcanic marvel – the Islet of Vila Franca do Campo off-coast protected natural reserve. Learn more about its geology, and living fauna and flora! The tour starts with a short briefing introducing to the volcanic islet’s geology, plant and animal species that can be found, the nature reserve’s rules, and safety. Everyone will follow the Guide and Skipper to their designated boat, for 10 minutes travelling by sea to the Islet.

Meet us at the Marina of Vila Franca do Campo for check-in at the specified time The journey starts with a short briefing introducing Cetacean (Whales and Dolphins) local species, their migration and behavioural patterns, and onboard safety Follow the Guide and Skipper to your designated boat, and go out to sea. Lookouts high inland help locate our friends, and provide directions via VHF Radio to where the boat will travel, initially at high speed. Carefully approaching our friends, your Guide will keep you informed, collect field imagery and data for local research, and is always available throughout to provide answers to any specific questions – feel free to ask Marine Wildlife can be observed yearlong. More than 25 cetacean species are possible to observe, Sperm Whales are resident alongside 3 dolphin species, and abundant marine biodiversity.
