Description

Discover the fascinating circular route in the Caldeira de Guilherme Moniz, a protected geological area full of Macaronesian forests and peatlands that support the aquifers of this 23,000-year-old volcanic complex! The trail begins near the parking lot, taking you through ancient lava fields and trails carved by the ox carts that once fetched wood from the caldera. Continue through stunning landscapes, passing through a cedar forest and catching glimpses of the Cinco Picos Volcano, the largest caldera in the Azores.

We ended our tour with a visit to the regional products market with a cheese tasting, at Quinta dos Açores
