Guided tour. Visit Algar do Carvão, Furnas do Enxofre and Gruta do Natal with an expert guide.
Meet your guide and driver to collect you from your hotel and head to the first stop on the tour – the inactive Algar do Carvão. Visit it from the inside and discover its small lake and fascinating geological formations.
Then head to Furnas do Enxofre, a small strip of land with 20 fumaroles that spew white steam into the air. You can also see native flora such as juniper and blueberries from the Azores.
The tour ends with a visit to the Christmas Cave, a cave system known as a lava tube, full of spectacular volcanic formations.

Private Half-Day Hike Around the Caldeira
€75.00 Per Person
Andreas from Visitfaial
Hiking around the Caldeira is an experience you should not miss out if you visit Faial. This collapsed volcanic cone is one of the main landmarks of Faial. With 2 km in diameter it is an impressive reminder of the force of nature. The trail around the perimeter is about 7 km long and can be done in two to three hours. The hike around the Caldeira is physically easy, but those suffering from vertigo might find a couple of well secured passages a bit of a challenge. This hike is only worthwhile to be done if the weather is clear and the wind is not too strong. You will be rewarded with stunning views of the neighbouring islands and the untouched nature.
