Description
Embark on an unforgettable adventure to the summit of Pico Mountain, where you will experience the stunning views of both the sunset and sunrise from the top of Pico – Piquinho (Portugal’s highest peak).
The journey begins in the afternoon, as you’ll ascend to the top of Pico Mountain (2351m), arriving in time to enjoy the breathtaking sunset over the ocean and surrounding islands. Afterward, you’ll set up camp in the volcanic crater, where your guide will help you find the best spot, considering the weather conditions and the comfort of the group.
As night falls, you’ll sleep under the stars, surrounded by the vast Atlantic Ocean below and the open sky above. While this experience is truly unique, be prepared for the challenge of sleeping at high altitude in an area with rugged terrain. The temperatures can drop significantly overnight, so warm layers are essential for comfort.
The following morning, you’ll ascend once again to the summit to catch the sunrise—a truly magical moment that you won’t forget. Your guide will provide support, ensure your safety, and share insights about the geological wonders of the region, including the incredible fact that you’ll be sleeping above the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, in the highest point of the North Atlantic.

Private Half-Day Hike Around the Caldeira

Andreas from Visitfaial
Hiking around the Caldeira is an experience you should not miss out if you visit Faial. This collapsed volcanic cone is one of the main landmarks of Faial. With 2 km in diameter it is an impressive reminder of the force of nature. The trail around the perimeter is about 7 km long and can be done in two to three hours. The hike around the Caldeira is physically easy, but those suffering from vertigo might find a couple of well secured passages a bit of a challenge. This hike is only worthwhile to be done if the weather is clear and the wind is not too strong. You will be rewarded with stunning views of the neighbouring islands and the untouched nature.
